Pictures post op day 4...right leg

Molly is out of the kennel hanging out with Tyler...(you can see Chelsea in the background she climbed in Molly's kennel)

Molly is out...but Chelsea climbs in...

Her leg doesn't look too bad...a little swollen but not too bad.

Molly's first week...Post op day 4

Molly is doing great.

Dr Tudor called us after the surgery was finished on Monday...she said everything went well. They had xrayed Molly's other leg (the left leg...first one operated on) and everything looked great. Molly had a little bit more bleeding during the surgery this time on her right, nothing alarming...so there may be a little bit more bruising.

On Wednesday 8/4 Sean and Tyler picked Molly up from the vet. She was so happy to be home. We rearranged the kennel again...her kennel is in the family room so she can see us all. She went right in it and slept pretty much the rest of the day.

Today is Friday...she has been home two days. There has been a little bit of whining about wanting to get out of the kennel. However when we open the kennel she seems to know the routine and wait for us to put on her leash and get her sling in place.

But I have to say her energy is back...we really have to be careful with her she seems something in the backyard...or sees our other dog Chelsea run after something Molly wants to take off as well. She doesn't realize she has had sugery.

We are happy that it's over and that we are well into her first week of recovery. We are getting closer to the end of this process. The first leg healed so well and we are being strict with her now knowing the outcome will be so worth it.

Her leg does have some more bruising as predicted, but is it not hot to touch. There is some swelling but I don't think it's as much as the other leg was. Her staples look good and just like last time she is not licking them.

We have been icing her down twice a day and doing ROM on the right leg.

We have let her out of the kennel a few times to lay with us on the floor...she likes to lay with her legs stretched out straight behind her....great extension Molly! However when we let her out we have to keep a leash on her and hold it just in case someone comes to the front door and Molly want to go meet and greet.

Pictures of her first week are coming soon!

2nd surgery...the right leg

So today is August 2nd, 2010...Molly is 12 weeks and 4 days post op from her left leg TPLO.

We dropped Molly off this morning for her right leg TPLO surgery.

Same routine...nothing to eat after 9pm last night...dropped her of at 7:30 am this morning...signed the consent and left my credit card number (umm the financial side:)

I just got a call at 9:10am that they were getting ready to get started. They actually had started to shave Molly's left leg....so they made it even and both hind legs are now shaved. Oh well...it will grow in even I guess. They also obtained post op xrays on her left leg.

So now I will wait for the phone call that she is out of surgery.....here we go again.

Update..12 weeks post op

Wow I sure have not updated this blog in a while.
Molly is a little over 12 weeks post op on her left leg. She is going great with that leg.

We took her back for a 4 week check up with Dr. Tudor and she was pleased with Molly's progress. We were able to start talking Molly for short 5 minute walks at that time. However we really could only make it down the street and back. Molly's other leg (right) was bothering her. So we still had to limit her activity.

We were to take Molly back for follow up xrays at 8 weeks post op...however we knew that we would be scheduling her next surgery soon and that in order to save some money we would have them do the follow up xrays at that time.

So we kept Molly on the anti inflammatory medication for her right leg. If she did too much she would lay down and take a break. One time she was in the front yard with me and saw a bird and took off.....she was very quick. Then she limped for a few days after that. Again we just needed to be careful. We still did not throw a ball for her yet. Her left leg looked great and we didn't notice a limp on that side it was just that her right leg was weak.

We had a vacation scheduled the end of July and were wanting to get passed that before we scheduled her next surgery....in fact we were planning to go away Labor Day weekend as well and possibly with the dogs and were not sure if we would be able to hold off on the 2nd surgery until September.

However in the middle of July we ran out of anti inflammatory meds....three days later Molly was limping really bad. It was hard to watch. We didn't know if it was her not taking the medication or that her right leg was getting worse. We called for a refill but the vet wanted us to bring her in.

We explained that we knew she needed the next surgery but were holding off because we had a vacation upcoming. The dogs were going with us too. In a perfect world it would have been great if they could have done the surgery while we were away and then Molly could have recovered and boarded at the vet....but they would not do the surgery while we were out of town. Therefore we scheduled the surgery for the Monday after we got back....August 2nd. We also got her back on the anti inflammatory...and within a day she did not limp on her right leg.

Here are some pictures of Molly on vacation...she did great...she liked walking in the creek.
